Together, the drawings form the surface of a single tree slice from a London plane tree we call Winonaalice 450. The number 450 refers to the identification number assigned to this tree by the city. The name Winonaalice honors two land protectors who occupied the tree in an effort to prevent its removal. The tree comes from East River Park, where more than 1,000 mature trees and over 50 acres of parkland were destroyed in the name of “progress.”
